Nomenclatural Notes

Status: nom. inval. In Convolvulus soldanella L., the epithet soldanella is a noun in apposition. Within his new genus treatment of Calystegia, Brown (p. 483) included “Convolvulum Soldanellam L” (the accusative form of C. soldanella L.). On p. 484, Brown, under his new species name C. reniformis, remarked ‘Facies C. Soldanellae L. …” His citation “C. Soldanellae L.” is in genitive form and treated here as referring to ‘Convolvuli soldanellae L.” (not to ‘Calystegiae soldanellae (L.) R.Br.’)
