Nomenclatural Notes

Status: nom. illeg. nom. superfl. In his publication of the name S. vulgaris, Miller (l.c.) mentioned the exact diagnostic phrase name (= nomen specificum legitimum) of S. virgaurea L., (Sp. Pl. 2: 880. 1753: ‘caule subflexuoso angulato, racemis paniculatis erectis confertis’). Therefore, the name S. vulgaris was superfluous when published (see Shenzhen Code Art. 52 Ex. 13)
