- Although purporting to be ed. 16 of Linnaeus' Systema vegetabilium, this work must be attributed to Sprengel. In fact this should count as ed. 17; the real ed. 16 is that of Roemer & Schultes. Vol. 4 issued in two parts each with separate t.-p. and pagination. Vol. 5 is a supplementary vol. and has title: Systema vegetabilium. Editio decima sexta, curante Curtio Sprengel ... volumen v. sistens indicem generum, specierum et synonymorun, auctore Antonio Sprengel ...Sprengel (preface v) acknowledged contributions from several people, viz., ‘Accedit Willdenowii herbarium, cuius usque inspiciendi copiam fecit magistratus, faciunt amici. Super haec et celebranda benevolentia exterorum, maxime R. Brownii, Smithii, Balbisii, Delilii, Gussonii, Vivianii, Besseri aliorumque, qui et plantas rarissimas largiti sunt et libros praestantissimos.’ For all the new combinations or new names ascribed to the preceding authors, they are the authors.
