According to the list of contributors at the end of vol. 27, Dr Lankester and Dr Lindley were responsible for Botany and Vegetable Physiology. The Dictionary of National Biography (1885-1901) states that Lindley wrote the botanical entries up to the letter R and Edwin Lankester edited the Natural History section of the work. There are two versions of vol. 3 p. 357, one with 18 species of Bambusa, another with 31 species of Bambusa (including B. striata).
