Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be based on Salix humilis Marshall, Arbust. Amer. 140. 1785, as suggested by Merrill (1949: 107), Rafinesque did not refer to Marshall. Thus, the existence of a later homonym, S. humilis Willd., Berlin Baumz., ed. 2, 439. 1811, nom. illeg., precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Marshall.
