Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be a new name for Salix longifolia Muhl., Neue Schriften Ges. Naturf. Freunde Berlin 4: 238. 1803, nom. illeg., non S. longifolia Lam., Fl. Franç. 2: 232. 1779, as suggested by Merrill (1949: 107), Rafinesque did not refer to Muhlenberg, and thus the existence of several additional later homonyms precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Muhlenberg (Lim et al., 2013)
