Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be based on Salix ×holosericea Willd., Sp. Pl., ed. 4, 4(2): 708. 1806, pro. sp., as suggested by Merrill (1949: 107), Rafinesque did not refer to Willdenow. Thus, the existence of a later homonym, S. holosericea Ser., Flora 13(1): 41. 1830, nom. illeg., precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Willdenow (Lim et al., 2013)
