Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be a new name for Salix ambigua Pursh, Fl. Amer. Sept. 2: 617. 1813, nom. illeg. [ = S. nigra Marshall], as suggested by Merrill (1949: 106), Rafinesque did not refer to Pursh. Thus, the existence of S. ambigua Salisb., Prodr. Stirp. Chap. Allerton 394. 1796, and several other earlier homonyms, precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Pursh (l.c.). (Lim et al., 2013)
