Eponymy: 'The name of the species honours the highly regarded Chilean botanist Carlos Muñoz Pizarro, for he provided a complete description that includes an illustration of this taxon in 'Flores silvestres de Chile' (Muñoz-Pizarro 1966), but erroneously naming it as S. litoralis' doi:10.3897/phytokeys.154.49615
