Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the distinctive appearance of the abaxial surface of the leaves of M. navifolia, which, with their prominent and regularly spaced tertiary veins and strongly (occasionally slightly) recurved margins when dried, resemble the hulls of wooden boats. doi:10.1007/s12228-011-9214-0
