Remarks
Eponymy: This species is named in memory of the botanists, Marshall Painter (1801-1873) and Jacob Painter (1814-1876), his brother, natives of Middletown, Delaware county, where they planted and maintained a collection of rare trees and shrubs (see Harshberger, The Botanists of Philadelphia and Their Work, pp. 184 and 210). Sargent's usage of adjectival epithet not to be corrected.
