Reference to the basionym indirect. Linnaeus (1759) published Serratula lanceolatus 193 On p. 475, Linnaeus stated that the species numbers in this 1759 work refer to species in Magnol's 1686 work, titled Botanicam Monspeliense. Although the species in Magnol's work are unnumbered, Rothmaler (Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 50: 77. 1941) counted the species and found that species no. 193 referred to: Carduus lanceolatus L.
