Abbott cited Polygala acanthoclada A. Gray var. intricata Eastwood, Proc. Calif. Acad. Sci. ser. 2, 6:283. 1896 as the basionym. However, P. acanthoclada var. intricata is the replaced synonym of P. intermontana T. Wendt 1979 (non P. intricata S.F.Blake 1916). Abbott's citation is treated as a correctable error (see Vienna Code Art. 33.7(c)).
