According to Ockendon (Southw. Naturalist 10: 108. 1965), the holotype locality is se of St. George, Utah. J. W. Grimes (Mem. New York Bot. Gard. 61: 78. 1990) Ockendon (l.c.) designated a lectotype (an error).
