Bentham refers to \u03b1 brevispina DC., Prodr. 2 (1825) 178, however de Candolle cites only \u03b2 and \u03b3, implying that \u03b1 is the type. Bentham by refering to de Candolle probably validly published the name, however it is invalid being the type variety.
