Protologue: I. Guatimala Lunan, Hort. Jamaicensis, p. 420 (1814) ... DeCandolle (Prodr. ii. p. 225) (doubtfully) considers it synonymous with I. tinctoria L. var. brachycarpa DC, but (see note on this variety (p. 67)) De Candolle's plant is not Linnaeus's I. Guatimala, but is the I. guatimalensis of Mocino & Sesse, and of Poeppig.
