Without citing the name Spartium cytisoides P.J.Bergius (Descr. Pl. Cap. 199. 1767), Linnaeus included a major part of its protologue. For this reason, some treat E. capensis as a superfluous illegitimate name (cf., The Linnaean Plant Name Typification Project). In 1771, the name S. cytisoides remained untypified. Since Linnaeus did not cite the preceding name itself or include its type, his E. capensis is considered here as legitimate (see Melbourne Code Art. 52 Ex. 12)
