Roxburgh's (p. 66, footnote 12) reference to 'H. M. 7. t. 22' (= Rheede, Hort. Malab. 7: 41, t. 22. 1688) validates the name. Willdenow (Sp. P. 4(1): 477. 1805) flagged his new species name Thoa edulis with a cross sign (= imperfectly known species?) and referred to the preceding plate 22. Nicolson & al. (Interpr. Van Rheede's Hort. Malab. p. 34. 1988) treated the name G. scandens as superfluous and illegitimate for T. edulis.
