Some works treat Leucanthemum vulgare Lam. as a new combination indirectly based on “Belliodioides vulgaris Vaill. (1754)”. Sébastien Vaillant (1669-1722) is a pre-Linnaean author; the German translation of “S. Vaillant, Établissement de nouveaux caractères de trois familles, 1719–1725,” published during 1754-56, has many generic names and binomials (incl. “Belliodioides vulgaris”); the preceding translated work, however, is a suppressed work, and “Belliodioides vulgaris Vaill.” cannot serve as a basionym
