Remarks

Nuttall ascribed the genus name to Elliott, but did not ascribe the species name to anyone. Glycine monoica L. (1763) is a superfluous illegitimate name for G. bracteata L. (1753). Without referencing the preceding 2 names, Nuttall (1818) published the name A. monoica. Some recent botanical works regard that Nuttall indirectly referred to G. monoica and that A. monoica is superfluous for G. bracteata. However, such a treatment is not supported by any provision in the Shenzhen Code Art. 52 (pertaining to superfluity & illegitimacy). Furthermore, since G. monoica is illegitimate and cannot serve as a basionym, Art. 41.4 (pertaining to presumed new combination) also does not apply. Therefore, A. monoica is treated here as the legitimate name of a new species.
