F. cordifolia is first of the 2 species authored by Linnaeus (1753); Britton & P. Wilson (Sci. Surv. Porto Rico 6: 270. 1925) considered F. cordifolia L. as the typical species of this genus; their choice is treated as mechanical (St. Louis Code Art. 10 Ex. 7).
