Nomenclatural Notes
Status: nom. illeg. nom. superfl. Cronquist flagged C. cinerea var. jamesii as var. nov. and cited several homotypic synonyms (incl. Oreocarya suffruticosa (Torr.) Greene 1887). The autonym O. suffruticosa var. suffruticosa was created in: Payson, Univ. Wyoming Publ. Sci., Bot. 1: 171. 1926). At varietal rank, the epithet suffruticosa was available and has priority from 1926. Cronquist should have made the new combination C. cinerea var. suffruticosa
