For his S. torreyana, S. Watson cited 7 collections (including S. Watson 998). I. J. Bassett & C. W. Crompton (Canad. J. Bot. 56: 582. 1978) erred in designataing S. Watson 998 (at GH) as the lectotype; S. torreyana is typified by the type of Chenopodiana moquinii Torr. (nom. nov. for C. linearis Torr. (1852), non (Elliott) Moq. 1849).
