On p. 121 (dt. 1861), Gray listed ‘Aplopappus Poeppigianus, var. radiatus {Diplopappus Poeppigianus, Hook. & Arn., forma eradiata. Aplopappus sericeus, Philippi)’ (sic); since ‘Aplopappus Poeppigianus’ was not listed separately, Gray’s intended new combination “A. poeppigianus” was not validly made; however, in the Index (p. 445), the name “A. poeppigianus” is listed with a reference to p. 121 (which has the basionym). Therefore, the new combination ‘A. poeppigianus’ was validated on pp. 121, 445.
