Remarks: Etymology: hypo, under; pitys, pine (this species is often found under pine trees). L. referred to "Orobanche quae Hypopithys ... Bauh. pin. 88." and "Orobanche Hypopithys lutea. Mentz. pug. 3. f. 5." and spelled the epithet as "Hypopithys" (correctable to "hypopitys"; vide The Linnaean Plant Name Typification Project).
