Remarks

Some works treat F. spinosa Sw. as a new combination based on Sapindus spinosus L. (1762). Swartz, however, did not refer to the Linnaean name. De Candolle (Prodr. 1: 726, 728. 1824) treated Zanthoxylum spinosum (Sw.) Sw. (based on F. spinosa) and Z. sapindoides DC. (based on S. spinosus) as distinct species; his nomenclature is accepted here [The Shenzhen Code Art. 41.4 does not apply here]
