Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be based on Salix ×rubra Huds., Fl. Angl. 364. 1762, pro sp., Rafinesque did not refer to Hudson. Thus, the existence of later homonyms, S. rubra J. Walker, Essays Nat. Hist. & Rural Econ. 443. 1808, and S. rubra Richardson in Franklin, Narr. Journey Polar Sea 752. 1823, precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Hudson. (Lim et al., 2013)
