The Catawba ash frequents the alluvial river banks of the Piedmont region of the Carolinas, growing with the black birch, red maple, sweet gum, the white and green ashes, and the bitternut hickory; and is not uncommon in the vicinity of Raleigh, N.C. at an altitude of I10m, and Marion, N. C, along the Catawba river and its tributaries, at an altitude of 400m
