Remarks
Although this name might be considered to be based on Salix lucida Muhl., Neue Schriften Ges. Naturf. Freunde Berlin 4: 239. 1803, as suggested by Merrill (1949: 106), Rafinesque did not refer to Muhlenberg. Thus, the existence of a later homonym, S. lucida J. Walker, Essays Nat. Hist. & Rural Econ. 462. 1808, nom. illeg., precludes treating Rafinesque's action as being an indirect reference to Muhlenberg (Lim et al., 2013)
