“Sarracenia alabamensis subsp. wherryi Case & R.B.Case, Rhodora 78: 315. 1976” was invalidly published (because “S. alabamensis” remained invalid in 1976); S. rubra subsp. wherryi D.E.Schnell (1978), based on S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi, was inadvertently published as a subsp. nov. F. W. Case and R. B. Case (2005) referred to their invalid 1976 publication and republished S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi as a subsp. nov. and did not refer to S. rubra subsp. wherryi. Both names (1978, 2005) are based on the same type and same Latin description. Therefore, S. alabamensis subsp. wherryi (2005) is treated as a new combination based on S. rubra subsp. wherryi (cf., Vienna Code Art. 33.6(c, d)).
