Eponymy: Johannes Burman (1707-1779), author of Thesaurus zeylanicus (1737) (referenced by Nees & T. Nees). The epithet burmanni was derived from Burmannus, a well-established Latinized form of the name Burman (see “bauhini” example in Shenzhen ICN Rec. 60C.2)
