Trimen (Syst. Cat. Fl. Pl. Ceylon 101. 1885) validly published F. aestivalis var. major Trimen and indicated “[Ferguson] CP 3943” as the type. Koyama cited the preceding name as a synonym, but treated it as a nom. nud., lectotypified it with “Ferguson CP 3943”. He published “F. aestivalis Vahl subsp. major (Trimen) T. Koyama subsp. nov.” (sic), provided a Latin description, cited “Ferguson CP 3943” as the type, and thus inadvertently validated F. aestivalis subsp. major at a new rank
