Mr. Douglas found it abundantly upon the gravelly banks of the southern tributaries of the Columbia, and in barren ground in the interior of California

Remarks

A hardy annual, flowering from May to July. Our drawing was made in the Garden of the Horticultural Society in 1828 (vide Lindley). The publishing author Lindley ascribed the name and the description together to Douglas
