Remarks
Etymology: The specific epithet complanata refers to the horizontally flattened or subflattened branches of Hechtia complanata on the type series. Although it is not uncommon to find species with flat sterile bases of branches, the vast majority of species examined have most of the fertile part of their branches rounded. [epublished]
