Nomenclatural Notes

Status: nom. inval. Curtis did not provide a a description or diagnosis for R. pusilla and thus did not distinguish it from the related species (protologue: R. divergens … resembles R. rariflora at first sight, but has the closest affinity with R. pusilla, Chapm. mss., from which it differs in several particulars, especially in the achenium which is not rugulose. They are apparently similar to R. polyphylla, VahL (Mitrospora, Nees.) … The last two species, with R. pusilla, are peculiar among the North American species in the absence of hypogynous bristles; but they differ so much in habit that they can hardly be arranged together with reference only to this circumstance. R. divergens appears to be uniformly monandrous.)
