Remarks

This name is usually synonymized with Waltheria americana L. (1753). Probably the first to do so and giving preference to the name W. indica L. was Jacq., Icon. Pl. Rar. 1 (1787) 13, t. 130, expressing some doubt however. The first definite choice was probably made by R.Br., Obs. Herb. Vicin. Congo (1818) 478, 484, who also preferred W. indica and was followed by most British authors.
