R. E. Smith (Univ. Calif. Agric. Exp. Sta. Bull. 203: 27. Nov. 1909) mentioned the following: According to the latest arrangement by Prof. W. L. Jepson ... This (the northern California nut) is classed by Dr. Jepson as Juglans hindsii Jepson. Smith, however, did not make a separate statement acknowledging Jepson's contribution to the publication. Although Smith did not cite the basionym, he provided diagnostic characters for J. hindsii, and Vienna Code Art. 33.3 may be applied.
