(as marylandica)
Remarks
The names S. canadensis L. (1753) and S. marilandica L. (1753) have equal priority, and Torrey (1824) published C. marilandica var. canadensis (L.) Torr. and thus, established the priority of S. marilandica over S. canadensis. Hitchcock erred in publishing S. canadensis var. marilandica (L.) Hitchc. For the basionym and his new combination, Hitchcock cited the epithet as marylandica
