Combination is validly made by indirect reference to the basionym. Gardner states in the preface, p.ii, that synonyms refer to the name as used by Bentham in the Flora Australiensis. Gardner includes Athrixia multiceps (A.Gray) Benth. as a synonym, and Bentham, Fl. Austral. 3 (1867) 599 includes Trichostegia asteroides Turcz. as a synonym of Athrixia multiceps (A.Gray) Benth.
