Protologue: Our first knowledge of this superb Plant, was derived from a fine dried specimen, the spike of which was eighteen inches long, sent by Dr. Wallich, from Calcutta, to which we had given the name of H. excelsum; but having afterwards, (in September 1819,) received from the same liberal quarter, the living-Plant, under the name of H. Gardnerianum, a name adopted by Dr. Wallich, in honour of Edward Gardner, Esq. British Resident at the Court of Napal ...
