A reference to Bot. Mag. t. 6076 (vol. 100, dt. 1 Jan 1874) provides a description for valid publication of the name. N.E. Brown (Gard. Chron. n.s., 4: 708. 1875) mentioned that according to Bull, the species came from India, but Brown disagreed and believed that the species probably came from Tropical America
