Basionym reference cited as Pseudogonocalyx paradoxa Bisse et Berazaín in: Revista del Jardín Botanico Nacional. Volumen V, número 2, 1984. páginas 133-146. Since a precise page no. was not cited for the basionym, the IPNI (prior to 22 July 2014) treated the new combination S. paradoxa as not validly published. Werner Greuter (pers. comm.; B) noted that the pages 133-146 pertain to the monospecific genus Pseudogonocalyx and its single species P. paradoxa and that the new combination S. paradoxa was validly published.
