Kotschy erred in ascribing the species name to: Tremeau (= Trémeau de Rochebrune, Alphonse = Alphonse Trémeau de Rochebrune (1834-1912)). Brown (in Fl. Trop. Africa 6(1): 562. 1911) cited the name as Euphorbia venenifica Tremaux ex Kotschy
