Index Nominum Genericorum gives A. australis R.Br. as a lectotype with reference to Maxon, Sci. Survey Porto Rico 6(3) (1926) 389 - this being because Brown cited several other species in the genus without making the relevant combinations, thus the genus was not monotypic.
