Presl did not publish Cyperus lanceolatus as the name of a new species; it seems that he determined the specimen labelled as C. lanceolatus as constituting a new species and named it as “C. complanatus”. Protologue: Fl. maurit. II. nr. 14. Cyperus lanceolatus — est nova species: C. complanatus Presl. Furthermore, J. Presl & C. Presl (Rel. Haenk. 1: 167. 1830) listed C. lanceolatus Poir.
