Reference to the basionym indirect. Linnaeus (1759) published Matricaria cotula 252 On p. 475, Linnaeus stated that the species numbers in his 1759 work refer to species in Magnol's 1686 work, titled Botanicam Monspeliense. Although the species in Magnol's work are unnumbered, Rothmaler (Repert. Spec. Nov. Regni Veg. 50: 77. 1941) counted the species and found that species no. 252 referred to: Anthemis cotula L.
