Remarks
On p. 347, Sprengel treated H. moschata G.Forst. as a variety of H. hirsuta Sw.; on pp. 351-352, Sprengel listed “H. moschata Thunb.” as an accepted name, ascribed the description to ‘Thunb. Diss. 2. ed. Pers. p. 412. (414)’ (= Thunb., Hydrocotyle 2, 4, 1798; in Persoon (ed.), Diss. Acad. 2: 414. 1800), and cited the locality as ‘Ad Promont. b. Spei.’ (Cape of Good Hope). However, Thunberg used previously published Hydrocotyle names (e.g., H. asiatica, H. moschata) without referencing the relevant authors
