Remarks

Although Britton & A. Brown (Ill. Fl. N.U.S. ed. 2. 3: 1. 7 Jun 1913) cited Gentiana centaurium L. as the type of Centaurium, their designation is construed as mechanical (see Melbourne Code Art. 10 Ex. 7). Toyokuni ( J. Fac. Sci. Hokkaido Univ., ser. 5, Bot. 7(4): 153. 1963) cited C. umbellatum Gilib. (invalid) as type.
