Nomenclatural Notes
Status: nom. inval. Karthikeyan intended to publish “Kobresia govindarajalui Karthik.” as a “nom. nov.” and cited “Hemicarex hookeri C.B. Cl. in J. Linn. Soc. 20: 383. 1883 p.p.” (excluding the basionym Kobresia hookeri Boeckeler 1874) as a synonym. He remarked that because of the existence of Koebresia hookeri, the entity of C.B. Clarke “requires a new name” in Kobresia. Since “Kobresia govindarajalui Karthik.” was published for a species previously known under a misapplied name [i.e., “Hemicarex hookeri C.B. Clarke”], “Kobresia govindarajalui Karthik.” was inadvertently published as the name of a new species and requires Latin description/diagnosis and type citation for a valid publication. Although Karthikeyan’s reference to C.B. Clarke (1883) provides a Latin description, there was no type citation
